In the Area
A new home or addition in Addis needs more than the parish permit. West Baton Rouge Parish issues residential building permits for the town, but before it will, the Town of Addis has to sign an initiation form, the town's own approval of the project. That signature has to be in hand before the parish permit application goes in.

Questions
We offer custom home building, roofing, home additions, bathroom remodeling, kitchen remodeling, hardwood floor refinishing, flooring installation, window replacement, house painting, and demolition and land grading.
The parish permit packet sets the floor of a new Addis building at least 12 inches above the adjacent road. Where the road sits above the ground around it, the floor sits 24 inches above the average nearby ground instead. Where a flood has been recorded, the floor must sit 12 inches above that flood's height whenever that comes out higher. On a lot below the road, that can add raised fill or a block foundation to a custom home.
A flash flood on April 24, 2025, flooded homes in Addis and in parts of Brusly and Port Allen. The mayor reported 7 to 9 inches of rain. If your home took water that day, write down how deep it got and keep that note with the flood insurance and permit records.
In Flood Zone A or AE, the high-risk zones on the flood map, the parish wants two elevation certificates from an engineer, each a signed floor-height record. The first is based on the plans before work starts, the second is done after construction, and final approval waits until the second one arrives. In Zone X no extra elevation paperwork is needed. Count two certificates in the budget for a lot in Zone A or AE.
West Baton Rouge Parish may charge a double fee, capped at $500, as a penalty when construction starts before the permit is issued. The permit has to be issued before the first day of work.
