Hardwood Floor RefinishingWhy Us
We started as a hardwood flooring business, and we still install and refinish floors today, so one licensed contractor can build the house and finish its floors. We hold Louisiana residential contractor license 884790, and we are insured.

In the Area
In Walker's A and AE flood zones, fill under a new home is capped at an average of 24 inches above the existing ground. Going higher takes a variance (a city exception) and a fill plan from a licensed civil engineer, with a pond to hold the water the fill displaces. The city strongly encourages pier-and-beam foundations instead of fill in the flood zone. If fill alone can't raise the floor enough, price piers too.

Questions
We offer custom home building, roofing, home additions, bathroom remodeling, kitchen remodeling, hardwood floor refinishing, flooring installation, window replacement, house painting, and demolition and land grading.
Walker requires the lowest floor of a new home, or of an existing home where the work costs half or more of its value, to sit 1 foot above the base flood elevation (the map's flood height), certified by a registered engineer, architect, or surveyor. The rule applies wherever the flood map sets a base flood elevation. Ask for the lot's base flood elevation before you buy it.
The city lists two causes of local flooding: water backing up from West Coyell Creek and Taylor Bayou, and flash flooding when heavy rain falls in a short time. Its August 2023 flood brochure counts ten major floods from 1967 to 2016. Check how close a lot sits to either waterway before you choose a floor height.
The city's landscaping rules apply to new construction, additions, and substantial renovations, but not to maintenance like repainting, repairs, or re-roofing. A new addition can therefore pull in landscaping requirements a re-roof never would. Allow for them in the budget when you add on.
A residential structural repair or remodel that adds no living area carries a flat $50 permit fee. An addition is charged $3 per $1,000 of value, with value figured at $85 per square foot of new living area. With plan review at $0.02 per square foot on top, a 400-square-foot addition comes to about $110 in all. Keeping the work inside the existing footprint keeps the permit at the flat fee.
