In the Area
In March 2022 the Denham Springs City Council voted to require new building in a flood zone to sit at least 2 feet above the base flood elevation, the official map's height for a major flood. Most of the city lies in a flood zone, so on most lots those extra feet decide how tall the foundation under a new home has to be.

Questions
We offer custom home building, roofing, home additions, bathroom remodeling, kitchen remodeling, hardwood floor refinishing, flooring installation, window replacement, house painting, and demolition and land grading.
The Amite River gauge at Denham Springs crested at 46.2 feet on August 14, 2016, the highest on record, beating the 1983 mark of 41.5 feet by almost 5 feet. Flood stage there is 29 feet. On a low lot near the river, the city's 2-foot rule can mean a taller slab or piers.
Denham Springs values a new home at $80 per square foot of living area. The permit fee is $3 per $1,000 of that value on the first $100,000, which comes to $300. Value above $100,000 and up to $500,000 adds $2 per $1,000. On a 2,000 sq ft home, that works out to a $420 permit fee.
No, because Watson sits in unincorporated Livingston Parish, where the parish rules apply rather than the city's. In June 2019 the parish council required homes in flood zones to be built 1 foot higher than FEMA's required elevation. Ask which floor rule applies to your address before you plan the slab.
On request, the Denham Springs Building Official will visit a property to review its flood problems and explain retrofitting options, such as elevating the house. Ask for that visit before you plan to raise a flood-prone house or add on to it.
